Payment Options

  • For therapy: Quest currently takes Sentara Health Plans (formerly Optima), as well as out-of-network plans or self-pay for therapy. Our therapists are not in network with any other providers.

  • For testing: Our testing psychologists are only out-of-network or self-pay for this service.

    Our decision to become self-pay only for testing was born out of issues with managed care that were directly impacting our services. For example, many times managed care unnecessarily caps the type of testing or amount of time we spend with patients, regardless of if treatment is “complete” or if diagnostic questions are answered. Especially as the pandemic brought with it immense global distress and an increased demand for services, our psychologists were finding that more flexibility and time were essential to continue providing the same quality of care. We are able to do both now without insurance standing in the way!


General Limits to Coverage for Testing: Some types of testing are not covered by insurance at all, such as educational or learning disability testing. Insurance considers these referral questions and respective diagnoses educational and not medical. Therefore, out-of-network benefits would not apply for these evaluations, and they would be considered fully self-pay.

Options for Patients Wanting to Use Insurance for Therapy: 

  • We are in-network with Sentara Health Plans (formerly Optima).

  • Our services do often qualify for HSA, HRA, and flex spending. 

  • Out-of-Network benefits may be possible. We can provide a superbill for you to submit your own claims for non-educational services. Our billing team is happy to assist if you have any questions about the process.
